Translate SDLXLIFF Files using translate5

Translate SDLXLIFF Files using translate5

Reading Time: 2 minutes

translate5 is a browser-based OpenSource system for editing and analysing translations. In translate5, users can edit, comment, filter, and sort translations. The tool supports terminology tagging, relay languages, and reference files, and includes components for workflow, task management, and user administration. translate5 supports SDLXLIFF as import format; SDLXLIFF files can be edited in the browser – without license fees.

The translate5 basic workflow has three workflow roles: Editor, translator, and visitor. The translate5 main workflow has two workflow steps: “Editing” and “checking of editing” by the translator. On the other hand, users with the role as a project manager are able to open a task in the workflow for viewing at any time, but not able to process it.

translate5 also offers terminology import via the TBX format. Imported terms are highlighted in the segment display. In addition to identifying exact term matches, it also supports stemming, fuzzy matching and capitalisation differences. The term display in the metadata panel also differentiates between preferred term usage, allowed terms and forbidden terms.

Editing efficiency for repetitions is supported by a repetition editor that displays both the source and target segments plus information about whether the source segment is repeated, the target segment is repeated or both. Insertion of repetitions can be executed automatically or manually.

SDL Trados Studio Track Changes Support

When exporting a project from translate5, it is optional to insert modification tags. Whenever a document is exported in such a way is opened in Trados Studio, the changes performed in translate5 by the editor, are part of the “track changes” function of SDL Trados Studio. Then, they can be accepted or denied within SDL Trados Studio with the function “Monitoring changes”.

You can test translate5 free of charge. If you do not have any test files available, you can download test files here and import as a new project.
