AlignAssist: Translation Memories from Old Translations

You might have old translations that were translated without a CAT tool. Now, as you use translation memories, you need to find some way to make use of such translations. There are some tools called Alignment Tools; among them is AlignAssist.

Align Assist supports a large number of file formats, including MS Word (.doc, .docx , .rtf), MS PowerPoint (.ppt, pptx), MS Excel (.xls, .csv), HTML, XML, Text, and PDF. After installing AlignAssist, you can start aligning your documents as follows:

  • Double click the AlignAssist icon on the desktop or select Start > All Programs > Assistant Suite > Tools > AlignAssist > AlignAssist.
  • Click Browse… to select select the Source File and the Translation File to be aligned.
  • Click Align! to begin the alignment process.
  • Select File menu > Save > from the drop-down menu Save as type, select TMX Memory which can be used in many CAT tools.

AlignAssist has been developed by Felix-CAT and can be downloaded here.
